Side B, Track Six: a proposal invitation template
A mixtape made by hand. They open the clear case, the J-card folds out in marker and biro, and the last track on side B, ringed twice, is your question.
The design
The whole invitation is one cassette and its J-card, lying on a bedroom floor. They arrive to the closed case, "Songs for" and their name lettered in marker on the card behind the plastic. A tap swings the lid open, the tape lifts out, and the J-card unfolds panel by panel: side A is why them, track by track with running times; side B is the evening (whatever the occasion: a formal, a gala, prom, a plus-one, a first date), and its last track, with the time written as ?:??, is the question, ringed in marker with an arrow pointing at it. Your note for them is a scrap of lined paper tucked into the case. Below, the J-card's flap holds the liner notes (your letter) with photos stuck on with tape, the spine says when and where it plays, and a rewind note makes no as easy as yes. The tape itself turns over to side B when tapped, a pencil winds its reels, and the play key starts your own uploaded song with the reels turning. They answer on side C, the blank track left for them: a Yes is written in as a bonus track, ringed, with a flurry of marker doodles; a No becomes the hidden track, "thank you for listening", underlined gently in biro.
Colours and type
Side B, Track Six comes in 3 colourways: Bedroom floor, red marker, Smoked chrome, blue biro and Sun-faded, cherry and teal, with 2 type pairings: Marker & biro and Brush pen & typewriter. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.

- Player Two: An arcade cabinet waiting in attract mode: "Player 2, press start". They press it, a little pixel scene plays, and the screen asks the question.
- Tick One Box: The note passed across the classroom, folded into a tight triangle with their name on it. They unfold it, read the question, and answer by ticking a box: Yes or No.
- The Corsage Box: A wrist corsage on satin in a clear florist's box, their name on the lid. Lift the lid and the ribbon tag slides out with the question and the occasion.
- Two Across: The weekend crossword, set by you for one solver. The starred clue is your question; the shaded answers are their name and the word date, and tapping them pens them in.
- Admit Two: A pair of cinema tickets, seats side by side. They tear off the stub to keep, turn it over, and the question is printed on the back.
- Par Avion: A paper plane folded from airmail paper waits on the desk with their name on the wing. One tap throws it: it loops the room, lands, and unfolds into the question.
- Four Flashes: A photo booth on a fairground at night. They press the button: the strip feeds out of the slot, the booth flashes four times, and the fourth frame is you holding up a card with the question.
- Table for Two: A reserved table in a dark restaurant. They tap the candle, the light spreads across the white tablecloth and two glasses, and the reservation card reads: a table for two, if you'll say yes.
