Planning a Bridal Shower During Wedding Season: Timing, Guest List and Details
Our Sweet Day Team, February 26, 2026
A bridal shower is usually planned by the maid of honor or the bridesmaids, and it happens while the couple is busy with the wedding itself. Our Sweet Day is for the wedding invitation, not the shower, but the two need to work together. Here's how to plan a shower that fits around the wedding.
When to Hold the Shower
Most showers happen 4–8 weeks before the wedding. Ideally the wedding invitations have already gone out, so shower guests already have the wedding date, venues and dress code.
Keep the Guest Lists Consistent
Everyone invited to the shower should also be invited to the wedding. Before sending shower invites, ask the couple for their wedding guest list. If they use Our Sweet Day, they can export it as a CSV in a minute.
Point Guests to the Wedding Invitation
Shower guests often ask the same questions: what to wear to the wedding, where the reception is, what gift to bring. Most answers are already on the couple's wedding invitation, in the attire note, reception details, gifts note and FAQ. Ask the couple to send each shower guest their personal wedding link so they can read it and RSVP there.
Avoid Duplicate Gifts
If the couple has a registry or prefers cash gifts, it will usually be in the gifts note and links on their wedding invitation. Coordinate shower gifts against that list, or agree on a theme such as kitchen, linens or a honeymoon fund.
Inviting Guests to the Shower
Send shower details by message or a simple group chat post. Include:
- Date, time and venue, with a map link
- Who is hosting
- The theme, if any (tea party, brunch, spa afternoon)
- Gift guidance
- An RSVP contact and deadline
Wording Ideas for Your Message
*Classic:*
"Please join us for a bridal shower honoring [Bride's Name] before her wedding to [Partner's Name] on [Wedding Date]."
*Casual:*
"[Bride's Name] is getting married! Join us for an afternoon of food, games and stories before the big day."
Simple Shower Activities
- Wedding trivia about the couple
- Advice cards for the bride
- "Who knows the bride best?" quiz
- Recipe cards for the couple's new kitchen
After the Shower
Collect the advice cards and photos for the couple, and remind any shower guests who haven't replied to the wedding invitation to do so before the deadline.
