Greek Orthodox Baptism Invitations: Godparents, Candles and Martyrika
Our Sweet Day Team, October 23, 2026
At a Greek Orthodox baptism, the godparent, the nonos or nouna, plays a central part: they sponsor the baptism, often bring the white clothes and the lambades (candles), and stay part of the child's life. The child's name is traditionally announced at the baptism.
Asking the Godparent
From your christening's event page, choose "Ask godparents". The person gets a personal link with their name and the role ("Will you be her nouna?") and answers Yes or No. Asking more than one? Write your reasons for each of them, and follow every answer in the christening's Proposals tab.
Choose a Christening Template
Create a christening and choose the baptism kind. The invitation has room for the child, the godparents, the service and the celebration afterwards.
Wording Examples
- "With joy we invite you to the baptism of our daughter, with her godmother Eleni Papadopoulos"
- "Please join us as our son is baptised in the Orthodox faith"
If the name is a surprise until the day, you can call the child "our little one" until then.
The Service and the Celebration
The Program section sets out the baptism at the church and the celebration afterwards. Mention the martyrika, the small witness pins guests receive, if you like.
Replies
Each family gets a personal link with the number of adults and children invited, and you see the replies in your guest list.
