Korean First Birthday (Doljanchi) Invitations: The Doljabi, Hanbok and Wording
Our Sweet Day Team, October 24, 2026
In Korea, a child's first birthday, the dol, is celebrated with a doljanchi: family and friends gather, the baby wears a hanbok, and at the doljabi the baby chooses one of several objects, each said to hint at the future.
Choose a Kids' Birthday Template
Create a birthday, choose the kids kind, and set the age to 1. Pick a palette in soft colours, or the bright colours of a hanbok.
Wording Examples
- "Our little Seo-yeon is turning one. Please join us for her doljanchi."
- "Thank you for watching our son grow this year. Come and celebrate his first birthday with us."
Many families write the invitation in Korean and English, one after the other.
The Program
Set out the day in the Program section: the welcome, the family photos, the doljabi, the meal and the thank-yous.
For Parents
The kids' birthday kind includes a section for parents: say if there is a play corner, a place to change nappies, or parking.
Gifts
If you'd like to mention gifts, keep it gentle in the Gifts section. Gold rings were a traditional gift; many families now say "your presence is the gift".
Replies
Give each family a personal link with the number of adults and children invited; you'll see the replies and dietary needs in your guest list.
