Muslim Wedding Invitations: Nikah and Walima Wording
Our Sweet Day Team, October 24, 2026
A Muslim wedding often has a nikah, the marriage contract, sometimes with close family only, and a walima, the celebration that follows. An invitation website can invite everyone to the walima and the closest family to the nikah, with the same design.
Opening Words
Many invitations open with the Bismillah, "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful", or a verse about marriage. Put it in the opening line, in Arabic, English or both.
Wording Examples
- "With the blessings of Allah, Mr. & Mrs. Rahman invite you to the walima of their son Imran and Aisha"
- "Together with their families, Aisha and Imran request the pleasure of your company"
Nikah and Walima
Use the Program section for both events, with their times and places. If the nikah is for family only, say so gently, or send the invitation with the nikah to family and a separate one for the walima.
Practical Notes for Guests
The questions section is a good place for anything guests may wonder: prayer times, a prayer space at the venue, whether the meal is halal, or whether seating is separate for men and women.
Replies and Seating
Personal links with the number of guests per family keep the headcount accurate. Replies include dietary needs, and the seating planner lays out the tables.
