Meadow at Knee Height: a christening invitation template
A walk through a spring meadow at knee height: grass sways all round the words, daisies open as you reach each part, and a dandelion clock waits by the reply.
The design
The invitation is a walk through a spring meadow, the eye at the height of the grass. Behind the page, rendered live, thousands of blades sway in the wind among daisies, clover and buttercups, the far field lost in a soft haze under the sky; the words stand in that sky, and reading down the page is walking slowly forward through the grass. The page opens down among the stems and rises to knee height as the child's name comes up. A finger drawn through the grass parts it; a touch on the sky sends a breeze running away across the field; scrolling faster stirs the wind. A daisy stands in the grass for each part of the invitation and opens as the guest reaches it, and through the order of the day one opens for every moment, a wave of them along the walk. Touch one of those daisies and its petals come off one by one on the wind; bees drift from flower to flower and dart off when touched; press and hold on the sky and the wind rises until it is let go. A four-leaf clover hides in the grass by the godparents, glinting now and then: find it and it lifts out of the grass for the child's luck. For what to wear, a jam jar of white wildflowers stands on an old stump in the grass, and the colours are daubs of paint on a painter's palette: touch one and the colour clouds the jar's water, climbs the stems and floods the petals. The photographs are a little album whose pages turn under a finger. By the last words stands a dandelion clock: touch it, or send the reply, and its seeds blow away over the meadow.

More christening templates
- The Garden Gate: A garden painted in oils as your guests walk in: the white gate swings open onto lunch under the willow, the blossom drops its petals over the godparents' bench, a robin splashes in the bird bath, and the little tree planted for your child takes everyone's ribbon.
- In the Olive's Shade: A lime-washed chapel wall in an olive grove, an olive branch swaying over the child's name and its shadow moving across the whole invitation.
- Pressed in Spring: A herbarium sheet: spring flowers are laid down one by one under glassine and the specimen label types itself; guests open the flower press, look through the hand lens and lay a flower of their own.
- The Shallows: Clear, shallow sea seen from above: small fish school over rippled sand, a turtle drifts by, and the child's name floats on the surface, its shadow on the sand below.
- First Light: A valley at dawn, painted wet in watercolour as you watch: the sun dropped into a rose and gold sky, ridge behind ridge, and a butterfly resting on a painted cosmos.
- Wet Watercolour: A sheet of cold-press paper that paints itself: drops of pigment fall, bloom and dry into flowers around the child's name, and the guest gets to paint too.
- The White Rose Posy: The florist's bench on the christening morning: a white rose opens in its bud vase, and the posy is made as you read, a rose set in for each godparent.
