Scratch & Reveal: a proposal invitation template
A keepsake scratch card with the baby's photo and three silver panels: they scratch them off to read the question, then return the stub with their answer.
The design
The classic godparent proposal, made properly: a heavy letterpress card with the baby's photo in an arched window, their name written under it, and three silver foil panels. The foil scratches off for real, under a finger or a mouse, with silver dust and a coin to do it with, and the panels read the question word by word: Will you be / my / godfather? Then the card turns into its own small print: the story behind the card, the odds (one in one), the prize (a front-row seat at the christening, a lifetime of birthdays), the day it's valid, and terms and conditions that make no as easy to say as yes. The answer is the claim stub: Yes or No, equal in size, and either one is stamped onto the card.
Colours and type
Scratch & Reveal comes in 3 colourways: Christening white & silver foil, Blush card & pewter foil and Sage card & gold foil, with 2 type pairings: Letterpress & pen and Nursery print & pencil. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
Who it suits

More proposal templates
- Player Two: An arcade cabinet waiting in attract mode: "Player 2, press start". They press it, a little pixel scene plays, and the screen asks the question.
- Tick One Box: The note passed across the classroom, folded into a tight triangle with their name on it. They unfold it, read the question, and answer by ticking a box: Yes or No.
- The Corsage Box: A wrist corsage on satin in a clear florist's box, their name on the lid. Lift the lid and the ribbon tag slides out with the question and the occasion.
- Two Across: The weekend crossword, set by you for one solver. The starred clue is your question; the shaded answers are their name and the word date, and tapping them pens them in.
- Side B, Track Six: A mixtape made by hand. They open the clear case, the J-card folds out in marker and biro, and the last track on side B, ringed twice, is your question.
- Admit Two: A pair of cinema tickets, seats side by side. They tear off the stub to keep, turn it over, and the question is printed on the back.
- Par Avion: A paper plane folded from airmail paper waits on the desk with their name on the wing. One tap throws it: it loops the room, lands, and unfolds into the question.
- Four Flashes: A photo booth on a fairground at night. They press the button: the strip feeds out of the slot, the booth flashes four times, and the fourth frame is you holding up a card with the question.
