The Christening Bear: a christening invitation template
An old mohair teddy in a knitted scarf sits on the nursery shelf and hands your guests the invitation one card at a time: swipe a card away and he turns to watch the next one; he tries his scarf on in the colours of the day.
The design
A christening bear is the oldest of christening gifts: the one that sits at the end of the cot and keeps watch. Here a real antique jointed mohair teddy, button eyes and worn felt pads, a hand-knitted scarf round his neck, sits on a light oak nursery shelf against a plastered wall. Propped behind him stands a deck of cream cards, and the invitation is that deck: the guest swipes a card away (or taps the arrows on the shelf's edge) and the next one is there, and the bear turns his head to look at it. The first card is the child's name, with the bear large in front of it; after that he settles at the corner of the deck and watches each card in turn. Squeeze him and he squishes. The cards: the little one, the service with its countdown, the day, the godparents (touch a name and the bear nods to them), our words, afterwards, the photographs as a little pile of prints, what to wear, where the bear tries his scarf on in each colour of the day, re-dyed in the knit, questions, and the reply, where he gives a happy little hop when an answer comes in.

The Christening Bear comes in 4 colourways: Nursery cream, Morning sky, Blush and Sage, with 2 type pairings: Cormorant Infant and Crimson and Young Serif and Karla. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.

- Airs for the Christening: A white ballerina music box stands open in the morning light. Wind it and the little dancer turns before her mirror; scroll, and the view goes into the mirror, where the invitation is kept, while Brahms' Lullaby plays note by note as your guests read.
- Lantern Hill: A papercut lightbox: watch the light come on behind the hills, tilt the box to part its paper layers, open the chapel doors and light a lantern for each godparent.
- The Star Cards: Your photographs as star cards, pierced where the stars fall: touch one and it is held up to the lamp, and the stars shine through the picture.
