Soft Focus Vellum: a christening invitation template
A printed card under a frosted vellum wrap: slide the vellum aside and the child's name sharpens out of the haze.
The design
The whole invitation is a modern stationery suite in vellum: an ivory card printed in one ink, with sheets of frosted translucent vellum laid over it, pinned with little brass brads. It arrives wrapped in a vellum jacket printed in white ink with sprigs of baby's breath; the baby's photograph and name show through it, soft as breath on a window. The guest slides the jacket aside with a finger and the name comes into focus exactly where the vellum leaves it. Every section is built from the same two layers. Headings are printed on vellum strips pinned across the card. The baby's details sit under a vellum overlay held by a brass brad that swings round on its pin to show the big initial printed beneath. The godparents' names lie under a frosted sheet that turns clear wherever a finger presses it, as real vellum does when it touches the paper. The verse is printed in two passes, colour on the card and linework on the vellum, which slide into register as you scroll. The dress colours are loose vellum chips to lay over one another and mix; the photographs wait in a glassine sleeve to be pulled out one by one; each answer hides under a vellum flap you can lift, though you can read it through the sheet anyway. A reply is wrapped in a vellum band and pinned with a brass eyelet.

Soft Focus Vellum comes in 4 colourways: Frost & ivory, Blush vellum, Mist blue and Sage & brass, with 2 type pairings: Breath on glass and Modern vellum. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.

More christening templates
- Painted Tiles: A wall of hand-painted blue-and-white tiles: the panel is set tile by tile, the name goes in last, and guests turn crooked tiles, fire the glaze and repaint the frieze.
- Christening Bells: Two polished brass handbells tied with satin ribbon on white linen: tap one to ring it and the name appears, then polish the tarnish off the brass to reveal the engraving.
- The Christening Cake: A three-tier christening cake in white fondant and sugar roses on a porcelain stand: turn it with a finger, watch the name piped onto a sugar plaque, and cut a slice at the close.
- Written by Hand: A calligrapher's desk: the child's name is written live in pointed-pen copperplate, and the guest changes the nib, blots the ink, tests the colours and tries the pen.
- The Certificate: An engraved baptismal certificate on a leather writing desk: press the brass stamp into the molten wax to seal it, and watch the godparents sign in ink.
- Blind Dove: A thick white cotton card with a dove pressed in without ink: the light rakes across as you scroll, and the dove rises out of the white.
- The Favour Table: The bomboniere table on the christening morning, seen from above: one satin ribbon unspools down the table as you read, threading every favour and tag of the day, and ends tied to your own.
- Fresco Under Plaster: An old chapel wall: a fresco of a May sky and olive trees comes out from under the whitewash, patch by patch, with the child's name painted in the band beneath.
