Christening Bells: a christening invitation template
Two polished brass handbells tied with satin ribbon on white linen: tap one to ring it and the name appears, then polish the tarnish off the brass to reveal the engraving.
The design
The invitation is a pair of christening handbells set out on white linen in morning light, made of real things: polished brass bells with white leather handles, each tied with a satin ribbon in the palette's colour, rendered in a bright room; woven linen; a pale ash case lined with quilted ivory satin; a band of engraved brass; lengths of satin ribbon. The guest taps a bell and it is lifted, rung with a small bright note and set down, and the child's name appears. The service is printed on the label inside the case lid. The child's name and particulars are engraved on the bell's shoulder under a bloom of tarnish, and the guest polishes it off with a finger until the brass shines. Each godparent has a bell in the choir, graded from largest to smallest, and each rings at its own pitch. The order of the day is a handbell score whose melody line draws itself as the guest scrolls, each note struck as it is reached. The dress colours are lengths of satin ribbon, photographs are prints laid on the linen, and the reply sets the guest's own bell down at the end of the choir.
