Fight Night Poster: a birthday invitation template
A milestone birthday billed as a vintage title fight: the birthday person versus the age, set in letterpress wood type, with the tale of the tape, the undercard and ringside tickets.
The design
Opens on a letterpress fight bill pasted to the gym wall: the hosts "present", one night only, the birthday photo printed as a halftone "in this corner", the name in stacked wood type, "vs.", and the age spelled out in split-fountain ink, landing like a punch as the press comes down. The milestone is pasted across the corner as a snipe. Everything below is the ringside programme from the same press: the ring announcer's call (the invitation), the venue bill with a weigh-in countdown and the after-fight as its own bill, the undercard (ring the bell and the next bout lights up), the tale of the tape (the celebrant against the age, stat for stat, with a fight record of life's big wins; throw three jabs and the referee counts the age out), ringside rules for a grown-ups' night, ring attire (tap a corner colour and the gloves lace up in it), halftone press photos, the purse, the referee's instructions for the questions, and a ringside ticket for the reply that is punched and stamped ADMITTED as the bell rings. In surprise mode a SURPRISE BOUT snipe goes up on the poster and a closed-door bout keeps the secret. It closes on the rematch: next year, the age plus one.
Colours and type
Fight Night Poster comes in 3 colourways: Fight Night, Blue Corner and Gold Belt, with 2 type pairings: Big Shoulders & Old Standard and Anton & Libre Caslon. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
