Grand Vintage: a birthday invitation template
A milestone birthday bottled as a fine wine: an engraved estate label reading "Vintage 1987, aged 40 years", a cork the guests pop, and the estate's cellar book for everything else.
The design
Opens on the shoulder of a dark bottle: the foil capsule, the cork, and a cream laid-paper label engraved for the occasion, with the estate house on its hill, the birthday photo in an oval portrait medallion, the vintage (the birth year) in tall italic numerals, the name in engraved capitals and a gilt strip that stamps "Aged 40 years". The label's rule draws itself on and the cork eases loose; a tap pops it, and it lands on its side showing its fire-brand. Turn the page and the estate's cellar book takes over, every section an entry on ruled ledger paper with bin numbers in the margin and the cellarer's copperplate hand: the back label with the producer's note and the drinking window counting down, tasting notes and a vertical of past vintages for the story, the cellar door for the venue and the second bottle for the after-party, a tasting mat for the evening's flight (tap a glass and the wine pours), the dress code as wine tilted over white paper and named the way a sommelier would, photos pasted in like old labels, a cellar list for gifts, questions for the sommelier, the cellar register for the reply (a wax seal lands: "Laid down") and the finish, where guests can raise a glass.

Grand Vintage comes in 3 colourways: Bottle green & claret, Garnet & tawny and Slate & straw, with 2 type pairings: Cormorant & Spectral and IM Fell English & Crimson Pro. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
