Pastel Clay: a birthday invitation template
A stop-motion short shot on a hand-built plasticine set: the photo in a pinched clay frame, a rolled-coil age, clay balloons and Pip the clay bird, all lit like a real tabletop set.
The design
The whole invitation is one hand-built clay set, filmed frame by frame. A single rolled-out sheet of pastel plasticine runs the length of the page under a studio key light, with fingerprints, rolling-pin marks and real shadows. The cover is the set: the photo stands in a lumpy frame pinched from one coil of clay, three clay balloons are inflated behind it, the age is rolled from thick clay snakes, and Pip, a little clay bird, hops in frame by frame (onion skin and all) to perch on the number before the name is pressed down letter by letter. Everything moves the way stop-motion moves: in held frames, twelve a second. Below, the shoot gives every part its form: scenes parted by a rolled coil and numbered on a clay slate, the backstory on a coil timeline, the call sheet with a cake whose candles you can blow out, wardrobe colours you press flat with your thumb, stills from the set stuck down with blobs of clay, notes from the director, and a reply that inflates your own balloon and floats it up. Tap anything modelled and it squashes and keeps your thumbprint. Grown-ups get a closed set for a surprise and a rated badge; a debut gets her eighteens as the film's credits, the cotillion in pairs and a note from the producers, her parents.
Colours and type
Pastel Clay comes in 3 colourways: Sugar Clay, Sorbet Set and Night Shoot, with 2 type pairings: Fraunces Soft & Figtree and Bagel Fat One & Nunito. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
