Wanted: The Birthday Kid: a birthday invitation template
A Wild West WANTED poster nailed to the saloon wall: the birthday star's face on the bill, a reward for your attendance, and every detail printed as the sheriff's notices on the same scorched handbill.
The design
Opens as the bill is slapped onto the plank wall of a saloon and the tacks are hammered in; WANTED presses in letter by letter in Tuscan wood type, a held beat, then the name slams onto the sheet and the reward rolls in red: "$1,000 REWARD for your attendance". Guests can throw a lasso round the name, keep raising the reward until the sheriff says that's plenty, stamp SIGHTED on the photographs, spin the tin star and send a tumbleweed across the prairie. Everything else is printed further down the same handbill in mixed wood type between woodcut rules: the legend of the suspect with a rap sheet of known exploits, the sheriff's notices with the particulars, the saloon's variety bill for the program, a notice to parents with the stagecoach timetable for drop-off and pick-up, sealed orders when it's a surprise, a no-minors notice for grown-ups, the dress code of the territory, the bounty for gifts and "Inquire within" for questions. Replying swears you in: a tin deputy's star drops onto the form, DEPUTISED in red. Works for every kind: debuts get the posse roster of eighteen dancers, the lamplighters, the strongbox ledger, deposits at the bank, rounds at the bar, the square dance and a letter from the homestead.
Colours and type
Wanted: The Birthday Kid comes in 3 colourways: Dodge Morning, Midnight Saloon and Painted Desert, with 2 type pairings: Ultra & IM Fell and Abril Fatface & Old Standard. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
