Teddy Bears' Balloon Picnic: a birthday invitation template
The invitation is an old clothbound picture book about your child: a teddy bears' picnic, a hot-air balloon carrying the age up, and every part of the party a page of the same book.
The design
Opens on a little linen-bound storybook with a picture pasted on the cover and the child's name stamped into the cloth. The cover swings open on its spine, the draught lifts the tissue guard off the frontispiece (the child's photo, tipped in as a plate), the title prints itself, and a striped hot-air balloon rises up the page with two teddy bears in the basket; after a held beat the age is printed on the balloon and the cub waves. Every section is a leaf of the same book, set in letterpress with running heads and folio numbers: a dedication from the parents, a counting page for the sleeps, Chapter the First for the year so far, Chapter the Second for where the balloons go up (tap a balloon and its burner lifts it), the afternoon as a table of contents with a lift-the-flap picnic blanket, a note for grown-ups at the back, the colours of the book as toy balloons you can let go, the photos as tipped-in plates under tissue, the gift note as an erratum slip ("for presents, read presence"), questions for the reader, and the reply on the book's bookplate, which is stamped Ex Libris while the bear lets his balloon go. It ends on The End, with the cub asleep, and the back cover: "Next volume: Ligaya is Two".

Teddy Bears' Balloon Picnic comes in 3 colourways: Nursery blue cloth, Rose cloth, sage tints and Sage cloth, mustard tints, with 2 type pairings: IM Fell & Sorts Mill Goudy and Della Respira & Crimson Pro. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
