Her Night Sky: a birthday invitation template
The invitation is an antique engraved star chart of the sky as it stood the night she was born, computed from her birthday: the eighteen candles are eighteen stars to light, the court a constellation, and every guest replies by naming a star.
The design
Opens on the first plate of a copperplate celestial atlas: the graduated rim and the coordinate grid engrave themselves, the stars come out brightest first as at dusk, the constellations draw in, and after a held beat her own star flares at the zenith and opens her portrait and her name. The chart is real: the bright stars, the Milky Way and the ecliptic are placed for ten o'clock on the night of her birth, eighteen years before the party. Inside, every part of the evening is a plate of the same atlas: the place of observation, the ephemeris of the night's events, the court as a constellation of double stars, the 18 Roses as a star catalogue, the 18 Candles as an asterism the guest lights star by star until its lines engrave themselves, the 18 Treasures as objects of note seen through the eyepiece, the toasts as shooting stars, the parents' message as the atlas's dedication, her story as the observer's log, the dress colours as spectral classes, photographs as glass plates and the FAQ as notes for observers. To reply, the guest names a star: it is engraved into the registry with their name and the observatory seal is pressed.

Her Night Sky comes in 3 colourways: Copperplate on vellum, Night edition and Sepia & celadon, with 2 type pairings: IM Fell English & Cardo and Cormorant Garamond & Spectral. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
