Encanto Mirabel's Embroidery: a birthday invitation template
The invitation is a piece of cloth Mirabel embroidered by hand: the child's photo in an embroidery hoop, her name satin-stitched across it, and every detail sewn in thread.
The design
Opens on woven linen with an embroidery hoop holding the child's photo like fabric. Her name is satin-stitched across the top of the hoop with the needle still in the cloth, the age is a cross-stitch patch, and Mirabel herself is sewn on as a felt patch holding her butterfly; the needle sews the name, the running stitch runs round the hoop and the hoop gives a tug. Below, the cloth continues in bands joined by seams that sew themselves as they arrive, each marked with the emblem Mirabel stitched for that Madrigal on her skirt: the countdown is a cross-stitch sampler, the story hangs off an embroidered vine, the venue sits at the end of a stitched trail where X marks the party, the program is a row of sewn-on buttons with Luisa carrying it, the notes for parents are tucked in Tía Julieta's patch pocket, the colours to wear are skeins of floss, the photos are appliquéd patches, the gift note is a sewn-in label, Dolores heard the questions, and guests sign Abuela's sampler to reply. It ends at the hem of Mirabel's teal skirt with its pom-poms: "Next pattern: Luz, age 6".
