Superman Daily Planet: a birthday invitation template
The invitation is a special edition of the Daily Planet: the birthday kid makes the front page, Superman flies across it, and guests reply on a clip-out coupon.
The design
Opens on the front page of the Daily Planet, printed on newsprint: the blackletter masthead with its globe, a weather ear forecasting a 100% chance of cake, the volume number set to the age and a banner headline, "Caleb turns 5!", over the child's photo as the front-page picture, while Superman streaks up across the page from below the fold. Lois Lane files the lead story with a when-and-where box. Inside, every section is another page of the same paper: Clark Kent's profile of the birthday child with a chronology, a Metro story with a locator map for the venue, today's listings for the program, a public notice to parents, a style column with the press colour bar, In Pictures for the photos, classified ads for the wish list, Ask Lois for the questions and a clip-out subscription coupon to reply, with Superman standing on it. The back page is the late edition: a note from Perry White, "Next edition: Caleb turns 6!" and Superman flying off.
Colours and type
Superman Daily Planet comes in 3 colourways: Morning edition, Evening edition and Sunday colour, with 2 type pairings: Bodoni Moda & Newsreader and Sofia Sans Extra Condensed & Old Standard. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
Who it suits
Made for kids, in the Themed style.
