Departure Board Railway: a birthday invitation template
The invitation is an old station's departure hall: a split-flap board that clatters to the child's name, enamel signs, the timetable as the program and a card ticket for the reply.
The design
Opens in the departure hall of an old provincial station: under the hall clock, set to the party time, the split-flap board clatters through its letters and stops on the child's name, then the day, the date and the time, and after a held beat the yellow age tile counts up and lands. Tap the board and it shuffles again. The child's photo hangs on the glazed tiles as a vintage railway poster for the Birthday Express. Every section is another part of the same hall, headed by a vitreous enamel sign: a 'Next departure' board with ticking flaps beside a semaphore signal whose lever you can pull to clear the line, the story as a printed service history, the venue on a station nameboard, the program as a timetable where tapping a stop sends the little engine down the line to it, a printed 'Notice' for parents, livery panels for the colours, the photos as views from coach windows, the parcels office for gifts, enquiries for questions and a pasteboard card ticket for the reply, punched and stamped BOARDED when it is sent. It ends at the buffer stop, where the Birthday Express waits for a wave.
Colours and type
Departure Board Railway comes in 3 colourways: Station cream, Night mail and Brunswick green, with 2 type pairings: Sofia Sans Condensed & Libre Franklin and Antonio & Literata. The colours and type change in the editor at any time; the layout stays its own.
